The requirement in the SIs is for min. £2m third party insurance. NOT for race insurance. Suggest Bruce looks at his policy, which will have 3rd party cover for at least £2m and check whether there is any race exclusion for this 3rd party element. It will probably exclude racing for damage to rig etc, but unlikely to do so for 3rd party. This is also view of RYA. It would be nice to get more cruisers out doing some form of racing – we all had a great day’s sailing in the River Regatta.

It was good to see a event for the cruisers in the club but when I looked at the entry form, cruisers needed to have insurance for racing! By the very nature of cruising this insurance is not needed and most cruising yachts would not have it. I suggested to other cruising owners via our cruising website joining in with this race but dropped the idea myself when I saw the need for this insurance.
May be next time HRSC could excuse the cruisers from racing insurance?
