Cruising in the South West was once again plagued by rather inclement weather for much of the season, however many of our Members enjoyed cruising the South West coast, Brittany and the Isles of Scilly.
A successful and enjoyable cruise to the Fal River with an overnight stop was organised by Bruce Carter – many thanks Bruce.
For myself along with Martine, I have explored new cruising grounds in both Turkey and Croatia, both of which we highly recommend. In November, accompanied by John and Wendy Moore, we visited the Grenadines and had a wonderful and very amusing two weeks – ‘Mr Parrot’ will not be forgotten by any of us.
Thanks to a seasonal anomaly (lack of wind), the annual L’Aber Wrac’h Race changed at 2am, at least for us, to become a very enjoyable 4 day cruise. As no-one finished within the time limit, prizes were numerous and mainly of the liquid kind.
I am conscious that my frequent absences from the Club (normally due to sailing) and racing commitments have meant that I do not devote a great deal of time to cruising out of Helford. Therefore I have decided to vacate the post of Cruising Rrepresentative so that it can be better served by another.
Over the past years I have cruised quite extensively the South West Coast, Isles of Scilly, North and South Brittany and the Biscay coast of France, so if any Member is considering sailing to any of these areas for the first time, I’d be happy to pass on any information that may be of help. Happy Cruising
Chris Symes, Cruising Representative
