Gaffers Report 2010

The 2010 racing season passed by without any major dramas. As always and in true Gaffer style it took a week or two before the entire fleet was on the water. However, once out the racing was very close, new sails on Racer ensured that the three Tosher 18s were often within a few boat lengths of each other.

Away from the Helford there has been some success with Phil Reed taking Racer to the Fowey Classics and, with Mike Hutchinson and Rodney Myers as able crew, won the Trafalgar Cup on handicap in a fleet of sixty boats from UK and France.

Sif and Glen competed in the Classics at the start of Falmouth Week and then Glen stayed on to race for the entire week in what were fairly blustery conditions. G-Class was very competitive with about 20 boats competing, fantastic racing and thoroughly recommended.

Going into 2011 the main racing fleet consists of three Tosher 18s (Glen, Racer and Roxanne), a Memory 19 (Sif) and Cicely. If all goes to plan the racing this year will be a lot more structured and with this we hope to entice new boats to the fleet, or even old members to return.
