COMMODORE’S REPORT

Dear Member

The Committee are delighted that the Planning for the proposed extension to the Club has been approved by Cornwall Council, please read Garth’s report below for more detailed information.  I would like to thank the Development Committee for all their hard work, particularly to Garth Weaver, John Jane and Tony Statham who have worked tirelessly toward this end and will continue to do so until the project is finished. Garth will act as Chairman, John as Project Manager and Tony  as Accountant of the Development sub-committee until completion, thus ensuring continuity with their collective expertise which is essential.

Once again we are looking for new Steward/caterer.  Many of you will be sorry to say goodbye to Niki as she has been such a good Stewardess for the Club.  There have been too many complaints from Members about the inconsistency of the food throughout the summer and John has had difficulty in catering for larger numbers;  the  Committee felt that they must act and two months notice has now been served. Despite extensive advertising it has become increasingly difficult to find the ‘ideal couple’ to suit our demands.  Although it is not necessary to have ‘fine dining’ it is a fact that without good food of a consistent satisfactory standard  Members do not use the club to the full and we continually strive to find the balance which suits everyone.  However we must all bear in mind that the club is isolated and very quiet during the winter months which makes it unattractive to prospective applicants who have to make all their money during the summer.  With this in mind, and to give the club the best opportunity, we are looking firstly to put this into the hands of the professionals and go through a Recruitment Agency.  If appointments are not made before the New Year, the Committee will endeavour to keep the bar open at weekends and to cover meals as required for events, and Captain Social has lots of ideas to keep Members enjoying the Club, but please keep an eye on the WEB SITE which will have all up-to-date information and opening hours.

I hope Members  will support the Committee in their endeavours during another difficult time which puts a lot more work onto their shoulders as they undertake to run the club as necessary and volunteers are most welcome.

On a happier note, The Budock Vean  Hotel  have agreed to host our Dinner Dance in January, and tickets are selling very quickly.  This is a superb venue and we look forward to seeing you there.

I would like to thank the Committee for all their hard work throughout the summer and all volunteers who give their time so generously on and off the water.

I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year

Jane Benney
