Thursday Evening Spring Series 2nd May 19:18     Laser Race NW3-1                   Triangle BUV

Aeolus favours McDonald

A rising neap tide found just enough water to launch for the first of the Laser Plate series on the Helford. Race Stewards Phil Philpott & Carrie Hoskins chose a short triangular course for the light North Westerly breeze knowing that light airs would fade to nothing close to shore. Being one of the most environmentally friendly of sports sailors know they must rely on their wits & their gods rather than petrol.  McDonald’s wits got him first past the Pin at the start from Bosahan for a beat north and west to Trebah. Rewarding McD’s knowledge of Helford’s tides and winds Aeolus was waiting to throw a couple of extra puffs at the laser pushing it around Trebah and beyond the reach of his frustrated rival Biggs. Trusting his own judgement Brooks went the wrong way and found himself in picturesque gyrations with the Radials about Trebah before a mine sweeping duty with trailing mainsheet catching buoys at Voose. Beccy & Emily heading the smaller sailed radials performed slow motion ballet as they gracefully interchanged lead – resorting only to petrol for the tow back courtesy Messer’s Greensmith & Glossop Results: 1st Roger McDonald, 2nd Andy Biggs, 3rd Stephen Brooks
