Solo Victor

Itching to get back on the water after his Hebridean holiday, Phil Philpott surfed his Solo to victory at HRSC Saturday. A Met Office forecast threatening Olympian gusts left only the brave, foolhardy and well ballasted to enjoy a rolling swell in a moderate south easterly breeze.

Relaxing on his second Q20 cruise senior race officer Dave Philpott over saw Andrew Hosking and daughter Rebekah lay triangular and windward leeward courses. Surfing on the run, hill climbing on the port beat and moguls to starboard – what more could a racer ask for?

In the first race Phil stuck to his race plan and sailed in the right direction, Brooks lost 2 minutes on an unprofitable beat to the North shore and McD & Beccy over reached to Durgan. With no call for their services Dave Church in safety positioned Dan Flunder for lovely shots of the runs and reaches. Resisting deviation for the final race the fleet narrowed the gap on the Solo with McD to 8 fine seconds but Brooks managing a 2 minute catnap in hammock masquerading as laser.

Results after handicap correction Phil Philpott 1, Roger McDonald 2, Stephen Brooks 3.
