This year weather conditions were again difficult with light airs and tricky flukey winds delaying the starts of both the Carrick and Bay Fleets. The Carrick Fleet with Roger Hollingsworth and his team faired better and got the boats away with some inshore breeze filling and giving them a chance of good racing especially for the second races of the afternoon. The Bay Fleet with Race Officer David Harford on ‘Noon Hi’ delayed until 13.00 sending off firstly the three IRC classes who found conditions challenging especially around the Eastern mark, where many were left drifting by the buoy until the wind finally filled from the North giving them a lovely sail home.
The 13 Working Boats were delayed by the lack of wind and a general recall, but eventually they had good sailing conditions for their race. With both Committee Boats finishing competitors in the Narrows of the Helford River, Club members were able to spectate from the Clubhouse balcony. Thankfully due to the favourable tide conditions and the liberty boats on hand to help, many competitors were able to go ashore and enjoy the wonderful regatta tea, the live music and pig roast, and thoroughly enjoy the atmosphere of a great afternoon.
As always our thanks go to all Members who helped in any way on Sunday, either ashore with the teas or afloat with Committee Boat, safety boat or liberty boat duties. A special thank you also goes to the Sailing and House Committees who work so hard in the background for many months beforehand organising not only this one day but also all our sailing and social events.
