Dear Fellow Sailors
Well, the odds have certainly stacked in our favour so far this year with some glorious sailing conditions for both the Spring and Early Summer Series. Wednesday evenings have been influenced by high pressure systems and some light easterly conditions, which certainly suited newcomer Zoom Baby as she cruised to a decisive victory in the Spring IRC Series followed by the J-boats with Jacobi in 2nd and Origin 3rd.
These light conditions persisted into the Early Summer Series but Jacobi started to get to grips with her new no 3 sail plan and just took the honours from Zoom Baby followed by Origin having stepped up a gear this season in 3rd. Having lost a couple of boats this season, the IRC fleet has benefited from two newcomers, Supergroove and General Khaos which are making great progress and we extend a warm welcome to them from the fleet.
The turnout in the PY fleet has been a little disappointing compared with last year when numbers blossomed – come and join in – it’s summer time! Jinjy, Valkyrie, Kudu and White Squall have been regulars with the occasional appearance by Beejolly, particularly early on. The Early Summer Series went to Jinjy with Valkyrie in 2nd and Kudu in 3rd.
Looking ahead, we have the 51st Annual Pursuit Race to L’Aber-Wrac’h which takes place on Friday 25th June, and there is the usual extensive programme of social events planned to welcome fellow yachtsmen from Brittany.
The HRSC Yacht Regatta takes place on 18th July with a new 3 race format for IRC, which is generating some interest from Falmouth based yachts and looks set to be a competitive Regatta. IRC commences at 10.30hrs, while PY and Gaffers will have 2 races with a more leisurely start time of 12.00hrs.
The plans for the Henri Lloyd Falmouth Week are now complete with Helford’s Race Day being on Sunday 8th August and an excellent shore-side programme of events has been organised. This year’s race programme also includes the Pendennis Cup for Superyachts and the IRC Southwest Championship, which runs from Monday 9th to Wednesday 11th August which should further swell the entries.
If you have any ideas or questions about racing your yacht at any level, please do get in touch.
Otherwise, come and join in on Wednesday nights, we look forward to seeing you on the water!
Regards
Garth & Stuart – Captains Yachts
