Remarkable Handicapping for L’Aber Wrac’h 2017

The final finish times for the race are attached and show that the first 13 boats finished within 50 minutes of one another over a distance a little under 100 miles. This is a wonderful feat of handicapping on the part of our very experienced Handicap Committee of Wally Royall, Ian Wort, and Terry Pascoe.

Congratulations to all the competitors who made it a special occasion. I hear that our French friends are already getting very excited about the 60thAnniversary race in 2019 – which I suspect might be somewhat special!

Champagne Recovery

This Thursday 23rd June! The traditional Champagne Recovery to welcome all the French boats who have made it over for the Helford to L’Aber Wrac’h Race.

Stickers for the Champagne will be available to buy on the door for £10 and there is a cash only bar on the balcony in addition to the main bar for the evening.

The wonderful Akoustek will be playing for us through the festivities and the Cornish Food Hub are treating us to another of their amazing BBQs.

L’Aber Wrac’h 2017

This year’s race got off in fine style on Saturday following a 24 hour postponement due to poor weather conditions. The delay meant the loss of some entrants owing to work commitments but on the day 16 boats started. The French contingent made the running but that old campaigner, Wally Royall (in his 90th year) was the first Helford boat to cross the line – congratulations Wally!

Helford – L’Aber Wrac’h Race | 2018 RESULTS

There were 30 yachts entered for the 2018 Helford to L’Aber Wrac’h race. It was a race of variable winds! Very light winds, if any, for the majority of the fleet, for the first six hours or so then it blew ENE 6 for the rest of the passage. Fourteen yachts finished and sixteen retired, some of whom motored towards France until the wind filled in.

Results

The winner this year was Richard Hall in his Westerly, Physis, with French yachts in 2nd and 3rd place.

L’ Aber Wrac’h Race Report 2019

The 60th Helford to L’Aber Wrac’h Pursuit race saw the spirit of the race well and truly restored with 51 entries and 50 starters. 21 French and 30 UK yachts entered.

The first yachts crossed the start line at 11.30hrs, the last at 17.45hrs. They had a light breeze until the Manacles and then a good breeze until 21.00hrs when it disappeared until the Easterly filled in at 03.00 to 04.00 hrs in the morning. Those that went East caught the wind first.
