Adult sailing

Tuesday evening sailing is open to all adult members of the club. We welcome everyone who wants to come along, from novices upwards. You can socially sail whilst enjoying the company of like minded people, both on the water and in the club house.

For details contact Angie Watson 01326 280536 moc.kooltuonull@1nostaweigna.

Tuesday evening adult sailing is an excellent way to meet other club members as well as gaining experience of dinghy sailing. Newcomers to sailing are teamed with an experienced helmsman and can learn the basic boat handling skills usually in one of the clubs Wayfarers – a large and very stable dinghy which can accommodate 4 adults.

Sailors with some previous experience attending Adult Sailing Sessions for the whole season, should be able to helm the Wayfarer with reasonable confidence by the season’s end. For complete novices it may take a little longer. You will also gain valuable experience of local sailing conditions and the effect of wind and tide.

Please note other club dinghies such as Fusions, Lasers and Picos are available for booking out on WhatApp during adult sailing sessions.

The group meets at 18.00 hrs each Tuesday from early May through to the end of September. The evening will normally start with a short chat covering topics such as boat handling, weather, tides, safety etc.

Sailing conditions for the evening are assessed and a destination agreed for the evening sail. Everyone then splits into groups of between 2-3 led by an experienced helmsman, the Wayfarers are rigged and the group sets off accompanied by the club safety boat.

We return to the club moorings by 20.00 hrs where boats have to be safely moored, de-rigged and the equipment put away. The sailors then repair to the club bar for an après sail session.

  • Upcoming RYA Level 1 & 2 Courses

    Dear Members

The Helford River Sailing Club is offering more dates for RYA Level 1 & 2 Courses which take place at the Childrens Sailing Trust. The new dates are as follows:

Will give you a basic understanding of boat handling techniques.

You will become a competent sailor in light winds, improving sailing techniques and manoeuvres, rigging, launching, safety capsize, recovery and basic rules of the road.

Both courses take place over 2 consecutive Saturdays. If you have had some previous dinghy sailing experience you can go straight to the Level 2 course, but doing both levels will give more practice and time on the water.

The courses take place in single-handed dinghies so you will need a wetsuit. Buoyancy aids are provided by CST. You will picked up from HRSC pontoon and ferried to the beach on the north bank of the Helford where the courses take place.

The cost of each course is £150

If you would like to sign up for a course please email me

    Kind regards
