Adult sailing

Tuesday evening sailing is open to all adult members of the club.

We welcome everyone who wants to come along, from novices upwards.

You can learn to sail or pass on your skills whilst enjoying the company of like minded people, both on the water and in the club house.

New recruits will be taken out in the dinghies and total beginners will be in the care of our most experienced sailors.

For details contact Angie Watson 01326 280536 moc.kooltuonull@1nostaweigna.

Tuesday evening adult sailing is an excellent way to meet other club members as well as gaining experience in Dinghy Sailing.

Newcomers to sailing are teamed with an experienced helmsman and can learn the basic boat handling skills usually in one of the clubs Wayfarers – a large and very stable dinghy which can accommodate 4 adults.

Although the adult sailing evenings are not a formal training course sailors, with some previous experience attending for the whole season, should be able to helm the Wayfarer with reasonable confidence by the season’s end. For complete novices it may take a little longer. You will also gain valuable experience of local sailing conditions and the effect of wind and tide.

Please note other club dinghies such as Fusions, Lasers and Picos are available for booking out on WhatApp during adult sailing sessions.

For those wishing to progress to racing, informal race training sessions are often another feature of the evenings.  Prospective racers may wish to use their own boats for race training although a fleet of club boats are available for competent helms.

The group meets at 18.00 hrs each Tuesday from early May through to the end of September. The evening will normally start with a short chat covering topics such as boat handling, weather, tides, safety etc.

Sailing conditions for the evening are assessed and a destination agreed for the evening sail. Everyone then splits into groups of between 2-3 led by an experienced helmsman, the Wayfarers are rigged and the group sets off accompanied by the club safety boat.

We return to the club moorings by 20.00 hrs where boats have to be safely moored, de-rigged and the equipment put away. The sailors then repair to the club bar for an après sail session.

  • RYA Courses

HRSC are delighted with the increase of interest in dinghy sailing this year, and plan to make RYA courses available to members.

The first of these RYA Courses is being provided for HRSC by the Helford River Children’s Sailing Trust (HRCST), base north of the Helford River. This two day RYA Level 1 course, which gives you a basic understanding of boat handling techniques will be held on Saturday 19th and 26th June from 9.15am to 5.00pm. The cost of a two day course is £150, however this is dependent on filling the courses with a total of 6 persons.

HRCST will pick up participants from the HRSC pontoon, and buoyancy aids will be provided but not wetsuits etc.

There are currently 3 spaces available. For further information and to request a place, please contact Captain Adult Sailing Angie Watson via email moc.kooltuonull@1nostaweigna or call 01326 280536.
