Volunteers keep the club going and make it what it is. If you’d like to get involved there are lots of ways to get out on the water and help. We need:

  • Safety boat/Committee boat drivers (with Powerboat L2 cert):
    • for Dinghy Racing (Thursday nights and Sunday mornings/afternoons) – Talk to Roger or Sam Philpott.
    • for Adult Sailing on Tuesday nights and the occasional Saturday morning/afternoon – talk to Angie.
  • Experienced dinghy helms for Wayfarers on Tuesday nights – Talk to Angie
  • Race Officers for dinghies and yacht racing (Wed/Thurs nights + Sunday mornings/afternoons) – Talk to Roger or Sam Philpott, and Rowly.

Safety boats and their volunteer crews form an integral part of day to day sailing at the Club and have always operated to a high standard.

We are actively looking to increase our Safety Boat crews and would like to hear from any member who wishes to get involved. As a member of the team you will receive both shore based safety training (classroom) and of course refresher training, both helming and safety boat training in the RIB.

We are also interested in volunteers who may wish to crew the boats ( No previous experience necessary), with an aim to eventually helm the safety boats once sufficient knowledge has been gained from being partnered with some of our more experienced helms.

We will be running regular quarterly safety meetings with teams associated with sailing and safety boats.  These meetings will be formed of a briefing and forum designed to attract suggestions and comments concerning safety from members who are not only experienced in water based activities, but also those who can can bring knowledge and wisdom from all other facets.

For those who may be interested, the minimum requirement for helms is RYA Power Boat Level 2 and as previously mentioned, safety boat training will be given.  If you feel that you may not be suitably qualified, please don’t be put off.  We can arrange courses in Power Boat Level 2, Safety Boat and VHF SRC.

If you are interested in doing an RYA Powerboat Level 2 course to assist in keeping our sailors safe on the water, please complete this form:
