Wednesday Evening’s Yacht Racing 2025
Yacht racing at HRSC happens every Wednesday evening at 6:30pm from April till October. We also have the occasional regatta – see the 2025 racing programme below for details.
Wednesday evening’s racing season starts on 2nd April with some informal/non-Series practice races for those boats already in the water and the first of our Sunday Pursuit Races is planned for Easter Sunday 20th April.
Wednesday evening’s racing is sometimes referred as ‘sailing with a purpose’. Courses are set within the estuary or just out into the bay, depending upon the wind and sea conditions and the races are run on a handicap basis (RYA YTC rating). Keel boats of any size can enter and an Entry Form can be found on the HRSC webpage. Only one Entry Form needs to be completed for the whole season and there is no Entry Fee. (Entry is open to all HRSC and POSFA members.) All Series races are programmed to start at 18:00, 18:15, or 18:30 (BST) (check the Sailing Instructions for correct time) and the start line will be within the estuary. Wednesday Evening Series Racing starts, in earnest, after the Easter weekend on Wednesday 23rd April.
We intend to run three Series during the summer commencing with a Spring Series of eight races (23rd April – 11th June) followed by a Summer Series of a further eight races (18th June – 6th August). The race on Wednesday 25th June will be for the Dorothy Winfrey Cup.
After a short break for Falmouth Week, we finish the Series racing with a six race Late Summer Series (20th August – 24th September). For those boats still in the water at the end of September there will be a couple of informal races during the first two weeks of October.
A 4-race Pursuit Series will be held with races on Sundays 20th April, 1st June, 20th July and 7th September. These races will start and finish in the river close to the clubhouse and the course will take the boats out into Falmouth Bay. Start times will normally be 11:00 (but check the Sailing Instructions for further details) and races will be planned to last between one and a half and two hours.
HRSC hosts the Annual L’Aber Wrac’h at the end of June. For further details see the dedicated page on this website.
The Wednesday evening’s sailing crews are friendly and welcoming to new sailors be they skippers or crew. To get involved check out the HRSC Yacht Racing Facebook page. If you have any questions please contact our Captain Yachts, Rowly Kirby ([email protected], 07971966336)
All race entries (for the regular series or HRSC regattas) must complete the online Race Entry form before they cross the start line. You only need to complete the form once to enter all HRSC yacht racing events – then just turn up to the start line on time.
Please also read and comply with the Sailing Instructions and Notice of Racing.
